Use a Broome to sweep off all that red dust

Arriving at the Indian Ocean was a truly happy moment. We drove straight to the coast as soon as we arrived in Broome and took the chance to wash off the red dust in the Turquoise waters of Cable beach. The feeling was just so refreshing!

Yes the sun does shine out of Rob’s ass!

We stayed at a caravan park at Cable beach and spent most of our time at Cable beach only venturing into town to check it out and treat ourselves with a meal out (we had red duck curry with lycee’s! I never thought lycees would be a good addition to red curry but it was amazing!).  Broome is a nice little place, with everything a decent sized town needs and good facilities to boot.

We took the chance to enjoy the quintessential Broome experience, the sunset camel ride along the beach and it was great fun! I would highly recommend it to anyone. Completely tacky, yes. Worth every cent, yes.

Broome is also home to the longest continuously running open-air cinema, Sun Pictures. Sun Pictures featured in the movie ‘Bran Nue Day’ for those of you who have seen it and is a wonderfully relaxed and retro cinema. Complete with the 1960’s deck chairs (which aren’t very comfortable but all part of the experience). It is right under the flight path and serves pop corn and choc tops, ace! We saw the Australian film ‘Red Dog’ which is a great little film about a roaming dog in the Western Australia Pilbara region. It was very fitting as Broome is not very far from the Pilbara.

From Broome we did a short overnight trip up to Cape Leveque (which has it’s own post) and returned to Broome for one final night.

We could easily have spent more time in Broome, however the wind was starting to pick up and it didn’t make for the best beach weather. We waved goodbye to the Indian ocean (for now) and off to the red dust of the Pilbara.

  1. Guys, these are absolutely amazing!!! I know me slacker and not keeping up as you post (I’m reading all of this month tonight). I wish I’d had an opportunity to do some of these things. Travel well and stay safe. Love you.
P.S. Mary you have a nice tan coming along there and Did Rob forget to pack his razor or something??
