Big Things

After leaving Broome and the Kimberley region, we headed south to the Pilbara and a much (relatively) cooler climate! Our travels took us through Port Hedland which as I found out, is the largest port (by export tonnage) in Australia. BHP Billiton pretty much dominates the town with their towering machines, kilometers of rail cars and piles and piles of red iron ore! The sheer logistics of the place must be mind boggling to coordinate the rail cars, workers, facilities and the port activities as well! I also found out that the largest privately owned railway in the world is in/around Port Hedland for use by BHP. Port Headland was definitely an interesting town for the little boy in me who likes playing with really, really big trucks!
