To Australia’s best beach!

Bremer Bay is familiar turf for Rob and I. In 2009, while on board the young Endeavour with yours truly at the helm, I steered the tall ship safely into the shelter of the bay. The next day, after being voted captain, it was Rob’s job to sail us out and it proved to be quite the task! While Rob was on deck navigating through the rocks and commanding his crew to ‘tack’ I was down in the galley trying to hold onto my stomach with potato’s rolling all over the floor!  (with all that tacking lunch didn’t stay on the bench!)

It was quite a detour for us to stop in at Bremer Bay on our way to Esperance however we could not miss the opportunity to see with a new perspective a place that had challenged us both. It was nice that almost two years on we had come back together.

We would have liked more time and to spend a night or two in the sleepy beachside town. It was a place to relax on the beautiful beach or fish or drive down the beach and then relax some more. It would also be a great place to take kids as the sheltered bay provides a safe and gentle swimming area, however time was ticking away and we were still a long way from home.

The next day we arrived in Esperance, which is a pretty isolated town! It is a long way from anywhere really and is the regions centre.  It is famous for it’s white sandy beaches and it’s friendly sea line named Sammy who lives under the town pier.

Esperance claims home to Australia’s best beach, Lights beach. The scenic drive leaves town and follows the spectacular coastline to Lights Beach.

Lights Beach – voted Australia’s best beach
The very scenic scenic drive

Lights beach is a very scenic and special beach however after having visited would have to say Esperance keeps it’s best assets about 50km out of town in Cape Le Grand National Park. The national Park is home to Lucky Bay, which is famous for it’s squeaky white sand and yep, it actually squeaks! The fine sand is pure white and whiter than Whitehaven beach. The colours of the water are spectacular and the tones of blue are inspiring to say the least!

The National Park is also home to Hellfire Bay, which is equally as beautiful as Lucky Bay.

A trip to Esperance would not be complete without a visit to the national park. There is loads of stunning coastline and plenty to explore. The beach is 4wd access too, which provided the perfect spot for lunch before continuing on our way.
